L’Origine

L’ORIGINE

(2016)

Feminism is a way of living individually and a way of struggling collectively.” Simone de Beauvoir

This collection, “L’Origine”, is named after the famous painting by Gustave Courbet, L’Origine du Monde (1866). In this painting he depicted the female sex in all its glory, and it is precisely what this collection talks about: women, specifically women related to the art world, artists and muses.

In the “L´Origine” collection, I wanted to represent “fragments” of the female body, inspired by works of feminist artists like Rebecca Horn, Ana Mendieta, Carolee Schneeman and Francesca Woodman among others. For these artists, the female body has been a subject of claim in their works, in which the concept of feminism and gender struggle is very present.

Another source of inspiration in this collection has also been the muses of classical art, specifically Greek sculptures, of which I have taken as a reference the drapery and the fall of the sculpture’s dresses and the way in which they suggest the female body.
